Lake Eufaula State Park- Oklahoma
Carrie Underwood’s hometown isn’t the only thing that draws people to Checotah, Oklahoma these days. For those recreational and outdoor enthusiasts, Oklahoma is home to many lakes that attract hundreds of visitors every year. Lake Eufaula State Park is among the popular destinations for camping, hiking, swimming, and many other activities offered within the park’s boundaries.
Formerly known as Fountainhead State Park, Lake Eufaula State Park sits on over 2,853 acres of land. More than enough room for the many hiking and biking trails available to visitors. There are also many miles of trails for horseback riding. Lake Eufaula State Park offers guided horseback rides on their lands and you can bring your own horse or use one of the horses kept in the stables. The stables can also be used to house your horse while staying within the park.
Lake Buffalo, the main lake within the park, is actually a manmade reservoir made up of 102,000 acres. Park goers can enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing on the lake. Watersports are popular among visitors. You’ll see all kinds of water activities from waterskiing, knee boarding, and paddle boarding to swimming and floating on the crisp, cool water.
Other things to do within the park are archery, disc golf, and regular golf. The Deep Fork Nature Center offers naturalist programs and activities for adults and kids alike. You will learn all about the Lake Eufaula reservoir and the state park and everything that inhabits it. From the different species present to the different types of animals you see out wandering around.
Camping in Lake Eufaula State Park is also a popular and fun way to be able to stay and explore the most of the state park as you can. The campground is available to park goers who wish to tent or RV camp. Each campsite comes equipped with a fire pit and grill; plus there is a convenience store and restaurant on site for visitors’ enjoyment.
